Flower Child's Story

Growing up, Jiji's favorite things were all sweet, full of color, and creative--flowers, books, art, baking, and time. Time spent sharing her favorite things with her favorite people. She'd create a wildflower bouquet (well, wild-weed bouquet if we're being honest), bring it inside, bake a treat, and give it away with a self-made card. The gifts were always the same, but the colors, flavors, and styles she'd be sure to match appropriately with the recipient. Thus was born her nickname, Flower Child.

Flourchild's Story

And Jiji's favorite things remain sweet, full of color, and creative. Gifts from her still always include flowers, books, art, or baked goods. In 2020, Jiji's health required she go gluten and dairy free. It took some time, but she found ways to tweak her favorite recipes and create new ones to accommodate her diet. She'd test out her creations on her friends and family. In the beginning, they'd grimace at the thought of any sweet treat being relegated to the dreaded GF or DF label - bracing for the typical sawdusty texture and tasteless (or worst-yet sour tasting) anti-treat, but they'd kindly do the taste-test. However, the pleasant surprise of Jiji's baked goods elicited the same response every time: "No way, these are gluten free? Dairy free too?! More, please!"

And so, baking delectable gluten-free and dairy-free creations became her gift of choice. She tweaked her mom's favorite blueberry muffins and aced the taste test. Her best friend's favorite chocolate chip cookies? Voila! The famous chocolate chip banana bread Jiji's daughter expected for every-day snack? Wave the GF/DF wand and done!

Friends and family urged her to open a shop to share the bounty and spread the sweet surprise of actually tasty gluten and dairy free treats. Why couldn't the rest of Michigan enjoy a bakery where alternative offerings just taste better? Thus, was born your new favorite bakery Flourchild.
